A gazebo
A gazebo is a freestanding, fully roofed structure — usually octagonal, hexagonal or rectangular — that provides complete shelter from sun and rain. Gazebos are a self-contained spot to sit, dine or shelter, often with a solid or felted roof and optional side panels.
A pergola
A pergola is an open-sided structure with posts and a slatted or louvred roof rather than a solid one. It provides partial shade and defines an outdoor area — often attached to the house or running along a patio — without fully enclosing it.
